Ksetiwatch is a monitoring tool for the Seti@home
distributed computing project, which searches for signals of extraterrestrial
life. It displays the state of the Seti@home client(s) running on your
computer or in your local network, and logs/manages completed work units.

Porting to KDE2 is making good progress. All major features are working well and everything
is looking much, much cooler now. See here for a
screenshot (~200 kBytes). After sorting out several minor glitches, a
new version should be out just before the official release of KDE2.
Due to lack of time I decided to discontinue development on the KDE1 version. New features will
only be implemented in future KDE2 versions. Well, I assume everyone will sooner or later
switch over to KDE2 anyway, so that this won't be too much of a problem. Of course, if somebody
should find a horrible bug in the last KDE1 version (0.5.3), this will be fixed.

Just another bugfix release before the big move to KDE2. If you don't feel annoyed by the bugs
listed below, there is probably no need to upgrade. Here is the list:
-
Fixed a bug that caused Ksetiwatch to crash on start-up in some cases. This happened only in case
of a fresh install, when Ksetiwatch tried to report two record signals at the same time.
-
Deleting a SETI@home location from the list produced a segfault; fixed.
-
When clicking on empty space in the `Completed Work Units' treeview, Ksetiwatch crashed; fixed.
-
Finally, fixed a bug that caused a running SETI@home client to be killed when trying to start
another client.
-
Clicking the `Dock-at-Panel' checkbox in the `Options' tab now immediately shows or hides the
dock icon.
-
Documentation has been updated.

Ksetiwatch 0.5.2 is out. This version features a much enhanced dock widget showing the state and
the progress of a selected S@h location. It even allows you to monitor two or more locations at
the same time by starting another instance of Ksetiwatch and selecting a different location. The
complete changelog:
-
Improved dock widget. To activate it, select an entry in the `Analysis' tab and minimize the window
(docking needs to be enabled, of course). The widget contains a small progress bar and a mini
icon which reflects the status of the client. The tool tip tells you which
location is monitored, and how long it takes to complete the work unit.
-
A few more functions have been added to the right-click popup menu of the dock widget. Now you
can start or stop the client without opening the main window.
-
The behaviour of the dock widget has changed. Now it stays in the panel even if you have opened
the main window. This way you can quickly open and close the window by repeatedly clicking
the icon.
-
Fixed a segfault when shutting down Ksetiwatch (thanks to Jan Knutar for pointing out this bug).
The next major goal will be porting Ksetiwatch to KDE2. Stay tuned!
